Emma Talbot: A Journey You Take Alone

Kunsthalle Giessen, Giessen, Germany
2 December 2023 - 28 April 2024

The exhibition A Journey You Take Alone by Emma Talbot focuses on birth and death – the beginning and end of human life. Her works, whether it be her densely woven sequences of images on silk, videos or three-dimensional objects, all deal with archaic aspects of love and mourning, age and transience, as well as with themes such as gender inequality, corporeality and the interplay between nature and spirituality. The artist‘s personal memories and experiences often flow into her stories, combining to form her distinctive style, in which faceless beings interact with animal-like creatures and are always interspersed with existential questions or statements about life and death. Emma Talbot brings text and image together to develop a distinctive aesthetic that ultimately unfolds into a core narrative structure.
